The Role:

As a Field Service Technician for Kapsch TrafficCom you will help maintain, install and administer Toll and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems) components in support of assigned projects within the region. This is a multi-faceted role that encompasses everything from installing new devices and components, performing corrective and preventative maintenance on electronic and mechanical components, equipment and systems through customer reporting, while ensuring all systems remain operational. This will include maintenance, safety, testing, and process improvement.

This role will work on-site with one of our customers in and around Leander, TX. Work will be performed outdoors, in tunnels and near freeways/highways, with frequent utilization of scissor lifts, boom lifts, and bucket trucks. All tools and PPE will be provided. This role supports a 24/7/365 operation and will require night and weekend hours in addition to participating in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance

  • Provide timely response to tickets while documenting best practices

  • Provide service and customer support during field visits or dispatches

  • Diagnose errors and/or technical problems and determine proper solutions

  • Operate vehicles in a safe manner and using field automation systems

  • Work independently or with team on installations, modifications, and repairs of tolling equipment and related ITS systems at various sites in the region

  • Read Toll System schematics and drawings, equipment manuals and design plans

  • Test toll collection and ITS systems through physical inspection and electronic test and measurement equipment procedures

  • Monitor, maintain and perform diagnosis of equipment problems with lane control servers, digital message signs, sensors, cameras, automatic vehicle ID readers, antennas, RF sources, switches, multiplexers, media converters, monitors, frame grabbers and other industry related equipment

What we are looking for:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service technical equipment

  • Experience reading and interpreting schematics, diagrams, and blueprints

  • Ability to utilize mobile tools and applications

  • Basic networking and technical troubleshooting experience

  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of applications including Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Experience with RF, microwave, electronics and AC circuitry

  • Understanding of low voltage AC/DC current

  • Experience utilizing multimeters and basic hand tools (sockets, screwdrivers, small drills)

  • Ability and willingness to work at heights up to 60’, outdoors (highway, tollway, bucket truck, boom lifts) and inclement weather

  • Ability and willingness to work in a 24/7/365 environment (Nights, weekends, holidays, on-call basis)

  • Valid, non-commercial driver license, with a clean driving record and ability to pass a background check in order to drive company vehicles

  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 pounds independently

Our top Candidates will have:
