Kapsch TrafficCom deploys Intelligent Transportation System in Ribeirão Preto
- Intelligent traffic management and monitoring system improve traffic flow and public safety
São Paulo, July 18, 2024 – Ribeirão Preto is advancing its transformation into a Smart City through the strategic implementation of a cutting-edge Intelligent Transportation System by Kapsch TrafficCom.
This initiative underscores the city's commitment to enhancing its traffic management capabilities and public safety through sophisticated technology solutions.
Developed by Kapsch TrafficCom, a globally recognized Austrian firm specializing in traffic management technologies, the newly installed system integrates traffic light control, variable message signs, and traffic and infraction monitoring through an expansive network of hard- and software. The ongoing rollout includes the installation of 150 cameras and the upgrade of 200 intersections with intelligent traffic lights along the primary public transport routes in Ribeirão Preto.
This advanced system is engineered to adapt dynamically to changing traffic conditions, optimizing traffic flow and enhancing the efficiency of public transportation networks. “Urban centers equipped with precise, high-tech monitoring systems represent the next frontier in city management,” stated David Niño, Systems Engineering Manager at Kapsch TrafficCom. “Our technology enables city managers to pinpoint and address critical areas through a comprehensive network of cameras.”
Enhancing Public Safety
The integration of this sophisticated camera network also aims to bolster public safety by enabling authorities to more effectively monitor focal points throughout the city and identify potential vehicular infractions.
The footprint of Kapsch TrafficCom in Brazil includes successful implementations in major cities such as Belo Horizonte and Fortaleza, as well as in Rio's light rail vehicle network and smaller municipalities including Itumbiara and Rio Verde in Goiás, and Farroupilha in Rio Grande do Sul. The company’s open protocol systems are designed for seamless integration, facilitating comprehensive mobility management.
“Our mission is to ensure that road users can travel efficiently, safely, and with minimal environmental impact,” added Niño. “Our innovative solutions and open technologies enhance city-wide mobility management and operational integration.”
