Major Milestone Achieved in Sweden: Kapsch TrafficCom Advances National Traffic Signal Project

Vienna, April 1, 2025 – Kapsch TrafficCom proudly announces a significant advancement in the ÖTS3 project in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration, Trafikverket.
Following the successful completion of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and the Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), the project has reached a pivotal milestone, bringing Sweden closer to a state-of-the-art traffic signal management system.
The ÖTS3 project, designed to replace the previous ÖTS2 system, involves implementing Kapsch TrafficCom’s innovative EcoTrafiX™ solution. This upgrade will enhance Trafikverket’s ability to control and monitor approximately 360 traffic signals nationwide, ensuring improved efficiency and reliability in traffic management.
By introducing EcoTrafiX™, adapted to Nordic standards, the system ensures seamless integration with existing infrastructure while setting a new benchmark for efficiency and reliability in traffic signal control.
Key milestones completed
FAT and SAT are key milestones of the project, signifying that the technology provided by Kapsch TrafficCom is performing as intended. The FAT procedure covered a wide range of functionalities, including system checks, user management and the newly developed RSMP protocol, as well as system integration with Trafikverket’s National Transport Support System. The SAT phase confirmed the system’s functionality in real-world conditions and included several customer ad-hoc tests, requests, and performance evaluations.
Project Scope and Long-Term Vision
The ÖTS3 initiative encompasses three main phases:
- Delivery and Testing: Comprehensive project management, installation, commissioning, and integration with Trafikverket’s operational systems.
- Implementation: System configuration and deployment across traffic signal facilities, ensuring operational readiness.
- Maintenance and Support: Ongoing system operation, preventive maintenance, and technical support for a minimum of four years, with options for extensions.
This collaboration between Kapsch TrafficCom and Trafikverket represents a major step forward in traffic management innovation, positioning Sweden as a leader in utilizing technology to enhance transportation infrastructure.
