Gothenburg Congestion Charging Project Enters Final Stages
- Kapsch TrafficCom now manages all charging and control points in the city
- System covers 100% of tolled passages in the city
Vienna, January 2, 2025 – Kapsch TrafficCom have taken a big step toward the completion of one of the biggest urban congestion charging projects in the world on behalf of Swedish traffic authority Trafikverket.
The rollout phase and the correspondant testing of the Gothenburg congestion charging project are complete, with Kapsch TrafficCom now managing all charging and control points in the city. The company has replaced the previous charging point system, working mainly at night and on weekends and bank holidays to ensure undisturbed system functionality. Every charging point has its own portal with cameras and other technical equipment that required to be replaced as part of the system renewal.

Upon finalization, Kapsch TrafficCom will be in charge of operations and maintenance for the next 10 years, with two years of optional extension. Entering the operations phase, the new congestion charging system covers the entirety of the city center, allowing for automatic vehicle identification and enabling the city to manage urban congestion proactively and successfully.
