Basque Country: Kapsch TrafficCom awarded for road safety excellence

Bilbao, December 20, 2023 – Kapsch TrafficCom is proud to announce that it was awarded the Innovabide Special Mention for its commitment and excellence in road safety management.
In a ceremony in Bilbao on December 15, Javier Aguirre, CEO of the Spanish subsidiary of Kapsch TrafficCom, accepted the honor. The event was chaired by Estíbaliz Olabarri, the Director of Traffic of the Basque Government.

Connecting infrastructure to improve road safety
Recently, Kapsch TrafficCom was awarded a large C-ITS project in Germany. Under the project, mobile barrier boards indicating limited-time work sites will be equipped with so-called ITS Roadside Stations, which send warning messages directly to approaching vehicles. This can reduce the risk of accidents in dangerous road works areas, as drivers are informed more quickly and directly about road works.
Additionally, Kapsch TrafficCom has announced multiple projects that focus on making traffic on Spanish roads safer and more reliable. In the Basque city of Bilbao for example, the company is fitting the A8 freeway with connected vehicle-technology, turning it into an intelligent highway. Once completed next year, this connected corridor will enable vehicles with active connectivity to receive real-time information on critical aspects such as weather conditions, accidents, road works, traffic jams, obstacles on the road, and speed limits.
