Kapsch TrafficCom to supply the first multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) toll collection system in France for highway concessionaire APRR.
Paris/Vienna, February 12, 2021 – Kapsch TrafficCom was awarded a framework contract by APRR regarding the supply, implementation and technical operations of MLFF tolling systems. This will improve traffic flow and decrease the environmental impact on the RCEA highway.
APRR, highway concessionaire of the Eiffage Group, is the second largest French concessionaire operating around 2,300 kilometers of highway. Employing 3,500 people, APRR manages a yearly turnover of around 2.4 billion euros. Recently, the ALIAE consortium (Eiffage’s group concession) has been awarded the A79 highway (formerly RCEA – Route Centre Europe Atlantique). In this context, APRR will deploy and operate a MLFF tolling system supplied by Kapsch TrafficCom. The new highway will open to traffic in 2022.
Improved traffic flow and less environmental impact.
From the end-user point of view, the MLFF system allows travel time and fuel consumption to decrease as drivers do not need to stop at plazas anymore. The automatic toll collection system is also an efficient and secure mean of payment without physical interaction. For the concessionaire, implementing a MLFF system improves the throughput of the highway, reduces the number of incidents and, above all, allows to decrease the environmental impact of the tolled road.
After a pilot phase where APRR had tested the performances of several MLFF technologies provided by different companies, APRR chose Kapsch TrafficCom as industrial partner in the deployment of its first multi-lane free-flow system projetcs. “This is a great success for us, showing that we are best in class in terms of performances and value for money. We are proud to start an exciting long-term partnership with APRR,” says Nathalie Leboucher, Senior Vice President Sales Western Europe, Middle East & Africa at Kapsch TrafficCom.
