The Connected Vehicle Environment (CVE) project, which started in 2016, aims to increase transportation mobility, safety, and efficiency for local residents in the city of Columbus in Ohio. The CVE integrates connected vehicles into the city’s transportation environment by installing in-vehicle and roadside technology, and by deploying CV applications that will enable enhanced safety and mobility features.
Europe's largest cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) project for regular highway traffic Kapsch TrafficCom signed in October 2023 a contract for a groundbreaking C-ITS project with the German Autobahn GmbH of the Federal Government.
Under this project, Autobahn GmbH is implementing the C-ITS communication service called Road Works Warning (RWW) system on all of Germany's approximately 13,000 km of highway corridors for the first time in Europa into regular operation. For this, mobile barrier panels indicating limited-time work sites will be equipped with ITS Roadside Stations (IRS), which send warning messages directly to approaching vehicles.
Kapsch TrafficCom Australia has established a local Connected Corridor and Intelligent Intersection pilot within the Australian Integrated Mobility Ecosystem (AIMES), a 6km2 area of Melbourne, which is situated near Melbourne CBD and includes the University of Melbourne campus.
Kapsch TrafficCom is providing the required in-vehicle Onboard Units (OBUs) to facilitate real-time data exchange with Austria’s chosen roadside infrastructure. Data from Kapsch onboard units will feed into the traffic management systems in real-time to support a range of safety applications, and to provide relevant information to drivers in their vehicles in real time to reduce the risk of accidents.
Kapsch TrafficCom has integrated its state-of-the-art connected vehicle technology with the existing traffic management systems for bus priority control. At its core, bus priority is a mechanism that adjusts traffic light phases to allow buses to move more efficiently through the road network—without the need for dedicated bus lanes. This allows drivers to focus solely on the road while the technology automatically manages traffic light prioritization.
Ireland’s national C-ITS pilot relates to the design, procurement, installation, testing, running and evaluation of C-ITS services on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) and within certain sections of Dublin’s road network.
